Menai Anglican is a reformed evangelical church that believes and teaches with clarity, purpose, love and compassion what God reveals to us through his Holy Scriptures. We hold to the beliefs stated in the early creeds of the Protestant Reformation and the 39 Articles of the Anglican Church. These are summarised in our statement of beliefs.

WE WANT TO BE A CHURCH WHERE PEOPLE ARE FINDING LIFE, GENERATIONS ARE BEING IMPACTED AND JESUS CHRIST IS THE CENTRE OF EVERYTHING WE DO.

WE BELIEVE IN:

The Bible

  • The Bible contains all things necessary for Salvation and is the very word of God as originally given, inerrant in all it asserts.
    2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21

God

  • There is one God who exists in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
    Isaiah 42:8; John 1:1,14:7, 15-18; Revelation 5:13-14
  • God is completely sovereign in all things including creation (Matthew 6:26), salvation (Romans 8:30) and judgement (Psalm 9:7-8).

Jesus

  • Jesus is humanity’s only Saviour from sin, judgement and hell.
    John 14:6
  • Jesus lived the life we could not live and died the death we deserve. It is only through the sacrificial, atoning death of Jesus as our substitute and representative, and his bodily resurrection, that we can be redeemed from guilt, punishment and the power of sin and evil and be reconciled to God.
    2 Corinthians 5:21; Romans 3:25
  • Jesus will return to judge the living and the dead.
    Acts 1:11

The Holy Spirit

  • The Holy Spirit is co-equal with God the Father and God the Son.
    Genesis 1:2; John 14:15-18
  • The Holy Spirit works to illuminate the believer’s minds to grasp the truth of Scripture, to produce His fruit and His gifts in them and to empower them for service.
    John 16:12-15; Galatians 5:22-25

Humankind

  • We are universally sinful and deserving of God’s wrath and condemnation.
    Romans 3:9-18, 23
  • We are unable, without the prior regenerative work of God’s Spirit, to turn ourselves over to God
    Romans 8:29-30
  • Through repentance and faith in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus we are freed from the power of sin and evil, justified, forgiven and redeemed.
    Romans 3:21-26
  • We are saved through faith and not by our own self-improvement or good works.
    Ephesians 2:8-9;  Titus 3:5
  • God created humankind as male and female who complement each other. Male and female are equal and different. Any effort to change or reject our biological sex at birth is a rejection of God’s purposes.
    Genesis 1:26-28, 5:2;  Psalm 139:13-14;  Ephesians 5:21-33
  • Marriage is between one man and one woman, and is a gift from God. New families are established in accordance with God’s purpose, so that children may be born and nurtured in secure loving care, for their well-being and instruction and for the good order of society, to God’s glory. Marriage is the only place where sexual intimacy is to be expressed. Marriage points to the relationship between Christ and the church.
    Genesis 2:24;  Matthew 19:5;  Ephesians 5:23, 31-32

The Church

  • Christ has established a holy and universal church, which is his body, of which he is the head, and to which all true believers belong. The church is called by the power of the Holy Spirit, under the authority of the Bible, to preach the gospel of Christ, administer the sacraments, and build up Christ’s disciples who are called to be members of local congregations.
    Matthew 28:19-20; Romans 12:9-13; Ephesians 1:22, 4:12; Colossians 1:18; 2 Timothy 2:2; Hebrews 10:25

Predestination

  • When we turn to God in faith, it is because he first chose us, and enabled us to respond to his call by his Holy Spirit. God’s grace is irresistible and our faith a gift from him.
    Romans 8:29-30;  Ephesians 1:4
