The book of Leviticus is potentially one of the most unfamiliar parts of the Bible for most Christians. It is quickly dismissed as “boring”, “irrelevant”, or even “obsolete”. This is a shame as the book is theologically rich and almost essential in understanding the full- orbed message of the gospel.
This series, and as you’ve personally engaged with this part of God’s Word has hopefully raised a number of questions and issues. We would love to hear them and address them as much as we are able.
In term 3, we will be hearing God speak to us as we unpack this Old Testament book. To help us mine the depths of Leviticus, we are having Dr Geoff Harper (Director of Research and Lecturer in Old Testament at SMBC) come along and take us through an overview of the book on Monday 22nd July 7:30-9pm at church. This is particularly for all our Growth Group leaders, but open to anyone in our church family who is keen.

“For me, Leviticus was a book that felt legalistic, outdated and so repetitive. However, once working through this part of God’s word with guidance it was clear this is a book of grace upon grace upon grace. I was able to see the lengths a holy God would go to, to dwell with a sinful people as his treasured possession. Oh the grace of God, to then be fully realised in the person and work of Jesus the Christ as the fulfilment of Leviticus.” – Connor Davaram

“We don’t appreciate Jesus unless we understand the book of Leviticus. And Leviticus doesn’t make sense if you don’t have Jesus. Leviticus was the first book Jews would teach their children. It’s like a dramatic stage play with all the signs pointing to Jesus. Through Jesus God will make the appropriate payment for our sin. He will establish a suitable go-between. He will clean up the mess sin makes inside and out, in our hearts and in our bodies. He will cover over the shame of our sin. He will remove sin, separating his people from their sin and filth forever. Because of Jesus God can live with his people and we can finally live as his people!” – Kelly Peters

“Leviticus contains God’s visual aids to help us see Jesus.” – Nola Betts
