THE WAY, THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE

“Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’” John 14:6
Have you heard the expression ‘all roads lead to Rome’? Apparently, the Roman Empire’s roadways radiated outwards from its capital. Despite this great design trend, if you have ever had the pleasure of travelling to Rome, you will know that the roads are chaotic despite their planning.
Many believe that all faiths are like this and that all religions lead to the same God. But like the roads in Rome, this too is chaos/chaotic thinking because of Jesus’ claim ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’
To quote C.S. Lewis, either Jesus is lunatic, a liar or the Lord.
“Either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God, but let us not come with any patronising nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.”
The locals called Jesus ‘good teacher’; he was a good intelligent man with integrity. He taught with poise, control, wisdom and spoke straight to the heart. Yet he says he is THE way, not one of the ways or a way. Jesus is the way to God because he is God in the flesh.
Jesus said to his followers “if you have seen me you have seen the Father” (John 14:9) and “I and the father are one” (John 10:30). Shocking but true! Living for Jesus is the only way to know God and to enter into His presence, His family and His saving purpose for the world.
So how is Jesus THE WAY to God? He paid the penalty for those who trust in Him by dying on the cross, so that when the Father looks at me, he doesn’t see my faults, failings, sin and corruption. Instead, God knows I have put my life into the hands of Jesus, and I stand forgiven, clean. Because of Jesus I am now acceptable to God and I get to call him ‘abba’/‘daddy’.
Avoid being like the band Talking Heads who are ‘on the road to nowhere’ and journey with Jesus; the only road to true and eternal life.
